Greetings:

UT-LANIC is now telnet-accessible.  This server is managed by the Institute
of Latin American Studies (ILAS), University of Texas at Austin.

UT-LANIC objectives are to provide Latin American users with access to
academic databases and information services worldwide, and to provide Latin
Americanists around the world with access to information on and from Latin
America.  Features will be:

- Directory of databases by subject
- Databases automatically accessed through pointers--not dialing
- All subjects covered, but only the most valuable databases in each
- Quick reference and up front evaluation of databases
- Host for Latin American databases
- Public domain (free of charge)

Once fully operational, we expect UT-LANIC to be very popular.  Because of
your expertise, we are calling on you for retroalimentacion.  If you have
direct access to the Internet, we'd like to invite you to access UT-LANIC
on a trial basis.

instructions on the screen, you can check the information you need.

We want to expand the listings under point 5, Latin America.  Can you
suggest on-line databases which should be on the directory?  Do you have
in-house databases of general interest which you would like us to host on
UT-LANIC?

UT-LANIC's server is in the experimental stages, and its contents will
change frequently.

Our server is currently operating through University of Texas Computation
Center's equipment, which is running in "secure" mode with limited features
and space.  Our own server with expanded capacities will be in operation in
about two months.

Any comments and suggestions are welcome.  Please acknowledge the
accessibility to UT-LANIC from your country.
